The Trustees were delighted to welcome Councillor Pat Cannon and his consort Jill to the concert held on 23 October 2016 as part of the Bluehouse Festival. "Another Evening with Stephen Aviss, and Bouffler Young Musicians" was once again a great success, both musically and financially, with a good and appreciative audience.

Introduced by Stephen, Luca started the programme stylishly with two popular pieces, Dream a Little Dream of Me, and The Way You Look Tonight, and was followed by Fern and Heather playing a selection of charming harp duets, including Pachelbel's Canon. Max then treated us to a Fantaisie by Demerssman, played with great technique. Nadine, who accompanied throughout, then played two delightful solo pieces for piano from Debussy's Children's Corner, and introduced them to the audience. Stephen completed the first half with The Gas Man Cometh by Flanders and Swann, drawing laughter from the audience with its timeless humour. The mood then became more serious with Stephen's reflective singing of Recondita Armonia from Tosca.

Heather started the second half playing two beautiful harp pieces, which she played at her recent Wigmore Hall performance. Matilda gave us a poignant account of Ireland's Spring Sorrow, and was the joined by her sister Madeline for two contemporary pieces. Madeline then sang three solo pieces, including the haunting King David by Howells and one of her favourite songs by Schumann. Nadine then compared the Children's Corner pieces and Scott Joplin's Maple Leaf Rag, which she then performed with great style. Stephen then sang the great dramatic aria from Tosca, E Lucevan le stelle, and left the audience wanting to dance the night away with Love Unspoken from The Merry Widow, as a duet with Madeline.

A delightful evening, leaving the audience content and impressed.
