Oliver! .... and friends
Fifteen young musicians aged between 7 and 18 gathered at Hazelwood School at 10am on Saturday 7th January 2012 to take part in a Masterclass run by Oliver-John Ruthven, Music Director of Hampstead Garden Opera, and James Hurley, a past performer in Bouffler productions and now an opera producer with Opera North and English National Opera.
The Trust's Music Adviser Michael Barlow and Trustee Nadine Andre accompanied the young musicians. Everyone worked hard on their own individual performances, with James and O-J suggesting little enhancements to make the performances even better. Then the group formed a small orchestra and singing group and worked up a performing version of two songs from Oliver!

A summer concert
The Trust was once again delighted to present a mini-concert folllowing the AGM of the Oxted & Limpsfield Music Society on 2 June 2011 at the United Reformed Church in Oxted. Four young musicians performed a variety of pieces for the large and appreciative audience.
Eleven year old Heather opened the concert beautifully, playing three pieces on her harp with great sensitivity: Ballade by Suzanne Macdonald; Angelus by Henriette Renie, and Processional by Linda Wood. Matilda then played ballet music from Swan Lake on her oboe and sang the haunting When Will Someone Hear from Martin Guerre by Claude-Michel Schonberg, performed with great poignancy. Elric sang the wistful Hallelujah by Leonard Cohen, showing great expression. Finally, Madeline showed how her lovely voice can adapt to different musical styles by singing three contrasting pieces: Handel's recitative and aria Ombra Mai Fu from his opera Xerxes; Die Forelle by Schubert and closed the concert with a moving performance of On My Own from Les Miserables by Claude-Michel Schonberg.
The audience gave the four performers, and accompanist Oliver-John Ruthven an enthusiastic reception.
